Book Review: The CEO's Guide to Talent Acquisition by Tim Tolan, Ginni Garner, and Russ Riendeau, Ph.D.

Story Highlights
The pearls of wisdom in this little book will give you insights that help to make your next placement successful for the long term - whether you are the interviewer or the interviewee.

This talent acquistion and retention pocket guide is full of creative ideas, delivered in short bursts of brilliance with 150-200 word sections.  This is not a book rife with complicated theories, impossible to decipher graphs, or philosophical drivel, but instead offers easy to implement ideas and common sense advice that can taken to heart and put into play today.  This book was written by a team of executive search professionals, including Tim Tolan, a well-known Executive Search professional in the Healthcare IT space,   It offers advice that, although aimed at those doing the hiring and managing, can be helpful for those in the interviewee hot seat, as well.  Here's a favorite excerpt - a list of insightful interview questions (these are just a few - there are many more in the book!)

"Draw me a pie chart showing me how you spend an 8-hour day."
"Are you a curious person?  And, if so, show me an example."
"Want to be a millionaire? Why? What are you doing to prepare for the day?"
"How did you earn money while in college?"
"What reading material would I find on your coffee table, nightstand, kitchen table, or in your car?"

Looking to hire or be hired?  The insights gained from reading this guide are timeless and applicable in any industry, and are presented with an equal dose of humor and good old common sense -- highly recommended reading.
